Typing has become an important subject in school because of the need to familiarize with computer keyboards in order to be more efficient.
I still remember when I began learning how to type, I was asked to familiarize myself with the position of the fingers when typing. I used practice typing using manual typewriter because computers were not popular in this part of the world many years ago.
Nowadays, with the popularity of computers and a wide range of typing games, typing has never been easier as compared to those days.
In order to master this valuable skill, practice typing cannot be avoided. First of all, before you begin typing, you must be taught the correct position of your fingers on the keyboard when you are typing. This is called hand placement exercises. You start by typing individual alphabet rather than the whole words. This is the initial process of familiarizing yourself with the keyboards.
Apart from the alphabets and symbols, it is also vital to practice typing number as it is unavoidable to include numbers either in your assignments or letters. After you have completed basic typing exercises, it is helpful to measure your progress by typing within certain time limit.
These tests are called timed typing test. It tests your typing speed and the accuracy. Without these tests, it is sometimes quite difficult to know your learning progress.
There are many online typing practices that you can consider adopting for your daily typing practice. I find these exercises useful and practical. The best part is you can do it whenever you like.
